Wondrous Waves

LMT explain the Wondrous Waves project

Our Team

Lerien, Millie and Tilly are the LMT in LMTdecodetheuniverse.tech

Wondrous Waves:

Radio waves are all around us, a form of electromagnetic radiation that travels in every direction. As they are a form of invisible light our eyes are not designed to detect them but just because we cant see them does not mean that they aren't powerful .

They can be as long as a continent or as short as a soccer ball, travel at the speed of light, and can go through solid objects like concrete and wood.

Radio waves can be converted into electricity using a device called a rectenna, which is a rectifying antenna. The rectenna absorbs electromagnetic waves from the environment, such as Wi-Fi signals, and converts the captured energy into usable electrical power. While this technology exists and can power small devices like sensors, the amount of power generated is currently very low

At its most basic, a rectenna consists of an antenna to capture radio or light waves and a diode-based circuit to convert the AC power into usable DC power for a load, like a sensor or small device

Our model, Wondrous Waves, shows all of the sources that create radio waves. It also shows the Wondrous Waves translating radio waves into electricity which can, with the right resources, power household devices like watches and microwaves.

What are radio waves?

Radio Waves are the longest wave-length. Electromagnetic waves are emitted by cosmic objects like pulsars, active galaxies and the sun through thermal or non thermal process.

Cosmic Sources:

Pulsars: rapidly rotating neutrons that emit regular pulses of radio waves.

Quasars/Active Galaxies: super massive black holes at the centre of galaxies that accelerate matter and produce vast powerful jets of radio waves.

The Sun: the sun's corona emits bursts of radio waves as do other planets in our solar system.

Neutral Hydrogen: this abundant element in the universe emits specific radio waves that can be detected by radio telescopes.

Here is an other explanation of how it works, written by the person that thought it up, our very own Matilda Pettinger

This amazing invention was totally original and must happen in the future to save our planet, our aim is to is to power the entire planet with our wonderous waves, our invention takes transmitted radio waves and turns it into electricity to power our amazing world while decoding our unknown universe and helping to understand radio waves

here is a truly wonderous example of how many emissions come from different sources in one day

What People Are Saying

As you can can see the wonderous waves is quite the amazing invention but if you don't believe us then have a look at what some other people said

this website was a very interesting read love the model it looks great I learnt lots about radio waves

spectacular! I can not believe ten year olds created this

jack

I learned a lot from this website there is a lot of information

this is better than bananas and I love bananas!

kate

what a clearly explained, beautifully visualized peace of work. I also love the fact that you have given a shout out to Matilda which shows how comfortable you are as a team of women to let each other shine. Bravo

Emmy

producer

Very impressive from the LMT team- loved the combination of explanation, model and data. Clear and to the point, I learnt something new today.
